The Older I Get the Better I Was by Mike Ransom (2021)

Pages: 136, Printing: Amazon Kindle Direct, Editing: Marjorie Toensing

There are a multitude of ways to reflect on a life. In The Older I Get the Better I Was, I chose to do so through the lens of thirteen sports, one per chapter, in which I have partaken. Stories included are from team sports (baseball, volleyball, softball, and football), racquet sports (ping pong, tennis, racquetball, and squash), and individual sports (running, cross-country skiing, golf, bicycling, and hiking).  The book isn’t about sports as much as it is about a well-examined life. It illustrates the importance of relationships, finding satisfaction, enjoying each day, staying physically and mentally fit, and coming to grips with growing older.

It has been said that the universe is made up not of atoms but of stories, and The Older I Get is chock full of them: entertaining, insightful, and inspirational. I have dedicated the book to my family and all others with whom I have become friends through sports. Writing this book has been fun and made me feel young again; I hope it does the same for you.
